On rare occasions, I remember to ask my friends to buy postcards for me on their travels.  Last year, my friend Jade from England visited Cambodia and India during the Christmas holiday, returning with this lovely card from Angkor Thom.  This was the last and most enduring city of the Khmer empire, having been established in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VIII,  It was the center of his massive building program and includes one of my favorite temples, the Bayon, upon which is carved numerous representations of the king’s face.
