I’m always pleased to receive mail from Germany as the country’s stamps over the past several years have never failed to interest me. This particular Postcrossing card from Berlin features the city’s largest palace and the only surviving royal residence dating back to the time of the Hohenzollern family. Built at the end of the seventeenth century and greatly expanded during the eighteenth century, Charlottenburg Palace includes much exotic internal decoration in baroque and rococo styles. A large formal garden surrounded by woodland was added behind the palace. During World War II, the palace was badly damaged but has since been reconstructed.
