This card required a bit of detective work; Postcrossing’s profile listed the user as living in Sovetsk, Russia, but Wikipedia informed me that there are three cities with that name in the Russian Federation.  There were no further clues on the postcard and the postmark on the enclosing envelope was unreadable.  In the end, it was the “Distance Travelled” category that determined this to be the Sovetsk in Kirov Oblast where it serves as the administrative center of Sovetsky District.  Formerly named Kukarka, it had existed as early as the 12th century when it served as the capital of the local principality of Chumbylat.  It changed its name in 1937 when it achieved town status.  The only notable person to have been born here was Vyacheslav Molotov of cocktail “fame”.
